World Food Day – 16th October 2018
This post is a little late but rather late than never.
Since we are talking about world hunger, let’s also talk about food wastage.
A very significant day for me. Creating the awareness that while some of us have three meals per day, there are people out there with none.
Tastic Rice is bringing people together to give back and impact communities they way it matters the most. Sharing my tips on how we can fight hunger by doing the following easy ways:
I’ve touched on this a lot because as much as we have access to buy veggies. Growing veggies is cheaper and more rewarding. You can do this as a team with friends or neighbors, which means less space needed and shared harvest.
Zero food waste
Cook enough for your family. On days that you end making too much, freeze and re-use another day as a different meal. Leftover rice is great to make paella and or Chinese fried rice.
A doggy bag not only for dogs
Restaurants are a hub for food wastage by customers not eating all their foods.
I sometimes sit at Restaurants and look at how many plates go back with leftover food- a case of having eyes that are bigger than our stomachs.
What we can do is take a doggy bag for car-guards or street beggars ( South Africa, you know what I mean ) I am obviously talking about decent leftovers. I wouldn’t want you to insult anyone hungry or not. The restaurants can turn into organic fertilizer.
Teach a man to fish
Giving food parcels is lovely but imagine what will happen if those people received food parcel with seeds to plant veggies and are shown ways how to.
I appreciate how is Tastic Rice for giving back to the community and bringing people together.
Stand together and fight hunger not just on World Food Day but every day!
